The school and community were faced with severe water insecurity with only a water pan serving a very widespread area. The pan, an unprotected water source was used by both humans and animals and dried up during dry spells. The sanitation situation in both the school and surrounding community was also dire with the school having limited sanitation facilities that were also in bad conditions and only about 15% of the households having sanitation facilities.
